The Ivy Bush tavern
This small inn on the Bywater road in Westfarthing, sold beer so well respected that it became the local evening abode for the elderly occupants of the hill in Bag End, so the price must have been good too!
The Gaffer held court here, and the inn was well regarded, not only for its liquid refreshment, but as the place to get the best in local gossip. Some complained of it having an upstairs, but in reality this was just a flight of stairs to the hilltop patio, with views all around. Perfect for a summer’s day, and for getting away from the locals pipe smoke!
